It has been today (2/10) announced that Milton Keynes will be home to a brand new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Our local MPs, Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart, have been lobbying the Government for the new hospital which they believe is necessary to keep up with the city's ever-growing population.

Before lockdown, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock visited Milton Keynes University Hospital to meet the leadership team and discuss development options.

And months later, in July, Ben Everitt MP further pressed the case to Matt Hancock.

Now it can be confirmed that the MPs were successful as a brand new hospital, specifically for women and children, will be built in Milton Keynes.

It will be developed on the site of Milton Keynes University Hospital, next to the main building, and will bring together paediatric and obstetrics services all under one roof.

Ben Everitt MP told MKFM: "I am absolutely delighted that we are going to be building a brand new children and maternity hospital in Milton Keynes, part of the 40 new hospitals pledged by the Government at the election. It is fantastic news for Milton Keynes. Iain Stewart and I have been campaigning on this for absolutely ages, banging down the door of Matt Hancock, and we are so pleased he listened.

"The team at MK University Hospital have put together a fantastic bid for this and we are really, really excited for the future."

MKUH Chief Executive, Professor Joe Harrison, added: “We are delighted with the Prime Minister’s announcement today. The development of this new hospital alongside our current hospital will enable us to provide the best possible care for the women and children of Milton Keynes.

“The announcement today recognises the need for us to expand our site to continue to provide excellent care.”

The new building will open in 2024.
