Community pub has been turned into a village shop for residents

The team at The Old Talbot, in Potterspury, are supporting the community by opening a local shop within their pub.

Pub partners, Stephen Roberts and Lesley, opened the shop as they were aware that many people in the community, including the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions, are at risk of not being able to get hold of essential supplies as a result of social distancing measures.

Stephen hopes that by turning their hand to grocery shopping, locals will be able to safely obtain everyday items. He said: “As a community pub we’re doing what we can to support our locals.

"We’re fortunate to be able to offer our a community a safe way to shop, and it’s been incredibly well received. We will definitely be continuing to offer our support in any way we can.”

The Old Talbot is also planning to launch an online ordering facility, giving them the opportunity to provide for those unable to leave the house as a result of lockdown, particularly the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

The shop is open between 9 and 2pm on Saturdays and stocks a range of fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, sweet treats, alcoholic beverages, and gardening products.
