Captain Tom’s name removed from charity first highlighted by MKFM

Hero no longer cited in foundation title.

Captain Sir Tom Moore's name has been removed from the charity that was created in tribute to the Covid hero.

Latest Companies House information shows the former 'The Captain Tom Foundation' will now be known as ‘The 1189808 Foundation’, which is a reference to the charity's official number.

The shock move comes weeks after an investigation by the Charity Commission into The Captain Tom Foundation, which found repeated instances of misconduct or mismanagement by the family of the late fundraiser, who formed the charity.

MKFM was the first news outlet to report on Sir Tom, the 100-year-old war veteran. He began a campaign to walk 100 lengths of his garden in aid of NHS Charities Together in 2020, with the goal of raising £1,000 by his 100th birthday on 30th April. But the initiative attracted international attention and eventually raised more than £32 million.

The official report was highly critical of the conduct and actions of the charity’s former trustee and CEO Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband Colin Ingram-Moore. It listed evidence of failings in the charity’s management, including failures to act in the best interests of the charity and to manage conflicts of interest. The pair have already been banned from being charity trustees.

MKFM contacted Mr Ingram-Moore for a comment but he declined.
