Today (01/12), MyMiltonKeynes is excited to announce that businesses across the city centre have voted in favour of plans to renew the Business Improvement District (BID), securing a further £5million to be spent on enhancing the area over the next five years.
Following its overwhelmingly successful first term, which saw MyMiltonKeynes create a safer, cleaner, better connected, smarter and more vibrant city centre for all, the BID has set out its ambitions for the future in the 2022-2027 Business Plan.
Supported by Milton Keynes Council’s democratic ballot process, which took place over a 4-week period throughout November, local businesses that were entitled to vote could select 'yes' or 'no' to the BID’s proposed plans.
95.2% of businesses by number and 97.65% by aggregate rateable value voted in favour of the BID. As a result, the renewed Business Plan will come into effect on 1 June 2022.
Since 2017, MyMiltonKeynes’ principal objectives have been to increase visits, dwell time and spend within our city centre. The BIDs ongoing vision therefore aims to continue to cultivate an outdoor environment that is clean, safe and stimulating, with a vibrant programme of events for all to enjoy.
Cllr Peter Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes Council commented: “I’m delighted that the CMK BID has won their renewal ballot. The massive “yes” vote shows the hard work and succuss of the BID over the past few years. It is a huge endorsement of what they’ve achieved, a vote of confidence in our city centre and how we’ll meet the challenges facing our high streets over the next few years.”
Melanie Beck MBE, Chief Executive of MyMiltonKeynes said: “We are overwhelmed to have received an outstandingly high level of support from our members, whose votes to keep MyMiltonKeynes will enable us to invest in even more exciting improvements to our city centre. Our vision for the future is to maintain the high standards of cleanliness, safety, connectivity, visibility and vibrancy that we’ve all come to expect in central Milton Keynes, and to work on new and emerging projects that will help to boost these areas even further.”
