A hotel in Milton Keynes used to house Afghan refugees has now been 'returned' to the local community.
A Milton Keynes hotel, which had been used to house Afghans who came to the United Kingdom through Op Pitting, has now been 'returned' to the local community.
The Marriott Delta, in Kents Hill, had been used as a bridging hotel for Afghan refugees.
The government says it has now managed to 'find enough housing' to close all the bridging hotels except for a very few minority that are accommodating those with specific medical needs or awaiting permanent accommodation to be ready shortly.
Iain Stewart, the Member of Parliament for Milton Keynes South, commented: “In typical Milton Keynes fashion, I am pleased the City was able to contribute to the efforts of welcoming Afghan refugees to the United Kingdom.
“Living in hotel rooms was not a permanent solution for Afghans so I am pleased suitable accommodation has been found. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this process.”
A spokesperson says the government is 'continuing to make progress' on clearing the backlog and delivering alternative asylum accommodation and 'hopes to be able to return more hotels to communities soon'.
