Debenhams Milton Keynes to close permanently

Debenhams have confirmed that their Milton Keynes store will not be re-opening again.

The retailer has been unable to agree new terms with the landlord, Intu.

Debenhams stores in Watford and the Metro Centre, both of which are also owned by Intu, will be closing permanently as well.

A spokesperson for Debenhams said: “Sadly we have been unable to agree terms with the landlord."

“As a result these stores will not be re-opening in line with the rest of the chain next week."

“We greatly regret the effect on our colleagues, who have served our customers with commitment and dedication."

“Our customers can continue to shop with us online at www.debenhams.com or at other local stores from next week.”

It is understood that a number of jobs will be lost as a result.

A total of 17 Debenhams stores across the UK will no longer re-open after lockdown.

The news is a blow for Intu who put administrators on standby last week.

Victoria's Secret, who also operate a store at Intu Milton Keynes, went into administration last week.
