Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson visited Milton Keynes last week to promote the city’s growing economy.
On a visit to one MK’s most successful and home grown businesses, Nifty Lifts, the Foreign Secretary managed to secure a rare opportunity to see MK from the sky as he went up in one of their tallest Cherry Pickers.
Mr Johnson would have seen across the entire city where businesses are setting up and new jobs are being created every day. Last year Milton Keynes overtook Cambridge in the league table of fastest growing city economies in the UK. That trend is set to continue as MK aims to be a smart city capital.
Nifty Lifts is the perfect example of the opportunities in Milton Keynes. Two years ago they completed their new state-of-the-art facility World Headquarters based in Shenley Wood, creating dozens of local jobs and apprenticeships.
However, there are concerns that the Labour run Council’s attitude towards business is putting potential investors off.
Leader of the Conservative Party Council Group Andrew Geary said:
“It was a real pleasure to have Boris in MK celebrating the fantastic, diverse and high tech economy we have locally.
However, we can’t take it for granted and it has become clear the Labour Council’s attitude towards business is potentially putting new businesses off coming to MK. That means missed opportunities and less jobs. They have lacked engagement, continuously put up parking charges in CMK, and failed to improve our grid roads.
We can’t afford another year of Corbyn’s Council, we need a new ambitious direction that only the Conservatives can offer.”
