After less than six months since being placed, one of the new benches along the Redway that runs through the Blue Lagoon has been torched.
Residents, with the continued support of Milton Keynes Council (MKCC), have and continue to work hard to keep the area clean, presentable, and welcoming, in addition to changing the image that Bletchley has in some people. A step taken to achieve this was adding benches along the Redway to make the Blue Lagoon a more sociable area.
Manor South Ward Cllr for Bletchley and Fenny Stratford Town Council, Terry Stephens, told MKFM, "The community who love the Blue Lagoon and MKCC have worked hard to provide more access, lighting and facilities (i.e proper bins) at the Blue Lagoon to attract footfall from those who see it was an anti social black spot. This culminated in the Major of MK opening the new Redway that links Newton Leys to the Town centre via Water Eaton Road."
He continued, "It's been terrific up to now with littering drastically reduced, but the latest hot weather spell has also attracted those that do not appreciate the beautiful nature reserve we have, which has resulted in discarded tissues, sanitary items around the area, and now the arson of new seating that's not even 6 months old. We request the area is treated with due respect, leave only memories and consider the wildlife and those in the community that enjoy it."
There have been no leads on the perpetrators as of yet, but residents are hopeful that CCTV footage will help find the person(s) involved.
