Barclays have confirmed to MKFM that their Bletchley Queensway branch will close on Friday 2nd September 2022.

MKFM contacted Barclays following speculation that its Queensway branch would be closing this year. The bank has since confirmed that this is the case, telling us that the branch has seen a 15% reduction in counter transactions with 89 regular customers using the branch for banking.

Last week, the company announced that it will be closing branches across the UK with 103 going by the end of this year.

The bank says that everyday transactions can be completed at any Post Office with the closest located at 140 Queensway, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK2 2AA (100 yards away).

Customers at Barclays that may be affected by the closure are set to begin receiving letters, explaining the decision behind the closure with virtual ‘tea and teach’ sessions on offer for customers wishing to explore digital banking.

A Barclays spokesperson told MKFM: “The decision to close a branch is never an easy one. However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking. As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.

“This is reflected at the Bletchley Queensway branch where there has been a 15 per cent reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020. In addition, 88 per cent of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.

“We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required. This includes working with the local community to find different, more flexible ways for our colleagues to continue to provide local banking support, such as through pop-up presences.”

The closest Barclays branch for customers affected by the closure will be at Central Milton Keynes Shopping Centre, 9 Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes MK9 3GB.

The bank has told MKFM that they do not intend to make anyone redundant as a direct result of this closure.
