The B526 at Stoke Goldington (north) will be closed from 14 November for 10 days to allow for essential road works to take place.
As a result of previous flooding at this location, the base under the road has become seriously eroded. This has also revealed a large badger sett under the road surface.
Badgers and their setts (tunnels and chambers where they live) are protected by law. Since the discovery of this sett the Council has been working closely with Natural England to assess the site, check for badger activity and plan the repair works.
The work will start on Monday 14 November at 9:30am and will be closed to vehicles 24 hours a day. Roadworks will take place during the day so that road surface temperatures are suitably high enough for the surface treatments.
The road closure will be in place all the time whilst these works are being carried out. A full closure of both lanes is required to facilitate the width of the highway vehicles.
Diversions will be in place for traffic and clear signage will be in place.
There will be additional warning signs on all approaches to the B526 from Tathall End, Ravenstone and Olney.
We will also be erecting ‘Stoke Goldington Businesses Open as Usual’ signs at either end of the B526 at the diversion points.
