A virtual career development programme funded by Milton Keynes Council is set to assist more than 2,000 local secondary school pupils this year.
This initiative has come about due to the Council's partnership with local charity Worktree as part of a new scheme called Career Workout. Career Workout is part of the Council's £2.25 million COVID-19 Economic Recovery Fund.
Worktree was established in 1992 and connects professionals who volunteer their time to meet with secondary school-aged children and help them develop essential skills that equip them for the workplace.
Since launching Career Workout last year following the Council’s funding, Worktree has connected more than 150 professionals from 90 different MK different businesses with more than 500 students from five secondary schools. The programme is set to engage with more than 2,000 secondary school pupils across Milton Keynes by the summer.
Cllr Carole Baume, MK Council Cabinet Member for Economy and Culture said: “We’re delighted to be working with Worktree to help provide career development opportunities to young people in Milton Keynes.
“We’re grateful to all the professionals across the city who give up their time to offer their support, advice and guidance.
“Every volunteer has the potential to say something that will inspire a young person to think differently about their own future.”
If you’d like to find out more or would like to get involved by volunteering your own time, please visit Worktree's website by clicking here.
Milton Keynes Council is also encouraging anyone who might be able to inspire young people into their career path to complete a 10-minute career snapshot. This can be accessed by clicking here.
