The start of a new year is all about looking forward. Whether you're feeling fired up about self-improvement, or are still deep in hibernation, it’s time to think about your home’s most unsung hero: your boiler.
Why consider replacing your boiler?
If your boiler’s been around longer than your Facebook account, it’s probably not performing as efficiently as it used to. Most boilers have a lifespan of 10-15 years (though good maintenance will maximise this, see more below!), and older models will almost certainly be costing you more in energy bills compared to the latest boiler tech.
Energy-efficient boilers = savings
Modern boilers are designed with energy efficiency in mind. A new boiler upgrade could mean a significant reduction in your heating bills. Gone are the days when energy bills didn’t regularly cause us to break out it a cold sweat; with soaring prices and ever-increasing ‘caps’, making the switch now will pay off sooner than ever.
Why age does matter
They say it’s just a number but… a 15 year-old, G-rated boiler will have a maximum efficiency of around 70% or less (meaning a massive 30% of the of the energy you’re spending your hard-earned cash on is completely wasted). By contrast, an A-rated modern condensing boiler boasts efficiency rates of 90% or more, meaning only a small fraction of the energy used gets wasted. This could save you hundreds of pounds per year (plus a couple of tonnes of carbon). This, combined with any call-outs and repair costs caused by an unreliable boiler, and the boiler replacement benefits can quickly outweigh the initial outlay.
With the original homes of the city built over 50 years ago, and its continued expansion ever since, we see boilers in Milton Keynes in all stages of life — some holding on better than others and some in desperate need of an upgrade!
Not ready to replace your boiler? Service it instead!
