Cornish Bakery, the independent, founder-driven company first started in Mevagissey, Cornwall, has announced that it will open it's doors in Milton Keynes on Monday 2nd December 2024.
The new bakery will create 24 year-round local jobs whilst supporting the community through a partnership with a local charity, to be selected by the new bakery team. The opening announcement date comes shortly after The Times hard-to-please food reviewer, Giles Coren wrote about his discovery of the Cornish Bakery Taunton Deane services kiosk which he described as having ‘perfect’ pasties and the ‘best ever’ sausage rolls. Now the bakery is coming to the vibrant city of Milton Keynes for all to enjoy its range of delicious products. The new Cornish Bakery will be located in the Centre:mk shopping centre near to Clarks, Next and John Lewis. The bakery is located on the corner with floor to ceiling glass frontage on two sides allowing lots of light to stream in, creating a peaceful haven for shoppers to relax in between their shopping. The bakery will host seating for up to 82 people. This makes it the company’s biggest bakery opening this year. The open bakery will allow customers to watch the team baking the products throughout the day. Given the company’s Cornish heritage, they support committed artisan makers and designers, showcasing the products and artworks of their home county's talented creatives. The new Milton Keynes bakery will be adorned with lights from Cornwall-based Tom Raffield and there will be original bespoke artwork created by south west-based designers, A-Side. The bakery will sell Cornish Bakery’s range of delicious products including its award-winning pasties and sausage rolls, both lauded by The Times’ food reviewer Giles Coren. Additionally, it will sell its daily crafted and baked viennoiseries, cakes, and bakes alongside recently introduced runaway success options such as a Pistachio Croissant and Salted Caramel Roll. Cornish Bakery has a long-standing commitment to the B-Corp certified specialty coffee company Union. Union’s philosophy of coffee sourcing is more than just paying a fair price. It means they work in partnership with farmers to improve both quality of coffee and livelihoods long-term, and Cornish Bakery carries this forward with every cup of coffee served in all of its bakeries. Cornish Bakery also proudly sources a large majority of its ingredients and products from producers, growers and suppliers from across Cornwall and the south west at large. Cornish Bakery Founder and Owner, Steve Grocutt said: “We are delighted to open our newest Cornish Bakery, our 65th nonetheless, in the young and vibrant city of Milton Keynes.
