A busy Milton Keynes road is set to close whilst works take place following two deaths in 6 years.
The roadworks started yesterday (10/01) and are set to take place until 18 March 2022.
35 crashes have taken place on the stretch of road since June 2015 and a spokesperson for Milton Keynes Highways has said that over the last five years, seven personal injury collisions were reported to Thames Valley Police.
All of these collisions situated on a particular section of the V8 Marlborough Street between the hospital and Peartree Bridge.
When collision data is above average, the highways team are obliged to act.
Plans for the road include the right way junction from V8 Marlborough Street to Chadds Lane in Peartree Bridge being closed off.
A spokesperson for Milton Keynes Highways said: “As the local highway authority for Milton Keynes, we have a duty of care to keep the public highway safe for all users.
"A collision investigation report was undertaken in January 2021 analysing the collisions that have occurred on the stretch of the V8 Marlborough Street between H7 Chaffron Way and H8 Standing Way.
"Many of these collisions involved vehicles turning right into or out of the junctions here. Therefore, we have decided to close the gaps along the dual carriageway.
“The roadworks will take place between 9:30am and 4:30pm to minimise disruption to peak traffic periods.
"Access to MK University Hospital, businesses and properties will be maintained at all times."
Chadds Lane in Peartree Bridge and Harrier Drive in Eaglestone will also be temporarily closed.
The entrance to the hospital from the Marlsborough Street junction, will be effected temporarily.
