Railway between Milton Keynes and London Euston will be disrupted just days after stay at home order is lifted

The railway between Milton Keynes and London Euston will be disrupted over Easter weekend, just days after the stay at home order is lifted.

Network Rail has said that 600 upgrade projects worth £116m will be carried out during the first weekend in April.

Passengers have been urged to "minimise travel" during this bank holiday weekend despite the Government's ending of the 'stay at home’ message days before, on March 29th.

This is when the rule of six will resume, and outdoor gatherings will be allowed for the first time since the national lockdown began in January.

Although the Government's stay at home rule will end, people will still be advised to cut down the number of journeys they make where possible - which includes rail travel.

For those that are travelling on Easter weekend, there will be major disruptions to the main routes across the country, including on the West Coast Main Line.

Track renewal between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston will disrupt train services, also affecting the Rugby to Birmingham route.

Andrew Haines, Network Rail chief executive, said: “Over the past year we have continued to invest billions of pounds in our railway to make sure we can play our part in a sustainable recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. This significant investment will continue over the Easter bank holiday weekend, with thousands of frontline workers out delivering vital upgrades to the network.

“While the majority of routes are unaffected, anybody who needs to travel by train over Easter should check their journey in advance.”
