'Golden Grids' programme continues with roadworks lined up for Milton Keynes

The Golden Grids programme was launched back in February in a bid to improve the look and feel of the network.

From Monday 28th March, H8 Standing Way 'Golden Grid' works will be taking place.

These works include fixing streetlights, safety barriers, damaged signs, painting lines, repairing potholes and cutting back vegetation.

To create a safe working area, some temporary road closures will be in place.

MK Council will also be refreshing the road markings on the V4 Watling Street from the junction with the H8 Standing Way to the Denbigh Road junction.

Last week, The Parks Trust teamed up with Milton Keynes Council to help clean MK's grid roads.

A spokesperson for The Parks Trust said: "We have been working in partnership with Milton Keynes Council on their ‘Golden Grid’ programme to improve Milton Keynes' roads. Our team have been working on the H5 to remove trees & shrubs which were encroaching the carriageway and blocking road signs which has opened sight lines."

When talking about the programme, Councillor Lauren Townsend, Cabinet Member for Public Realm said: "Coordinating all these services into one large programme is a complex task but it means we can get so much more done under one road closure to minimise disruption, saving both time and money.

"We’ll carry on each year with other grid roads to give them a major makeover whilst doing ongoing maintenance like weed spraying and sweeping on the others to keep them looking good."

The extensive works are being coordinated between the Council’s Highways and Environment teams and will include:

    • Removing weeds, cutting back overhanging vegetation
    • Repairing, cleaning, and replacing damaged signs
    • Removing clutter and litter picking
    • Refreshing road markings
    • Filling potholes and patching road defects
    • Cleaning road gullies
    • Tidying up the roundabouts including painting the brick edges
    • Fixing streetlights
    • Removing graffiti
    • Repairing damaged grass verges and reseeding where necessary
    • Coppicing or removing trees to keep them healthy
    • Replacing missing or damaged bollards
    • Sweeping the roads

All works are listed on one.network.
