I’m a huge coffee lover. The main downside to this is the staining on my teeth. Although my teeth are straight, due to having braces when I was younger, I’ve never been happy with the colouring.
MK Smiles is a new dental practice based in the Brooklands Health Centre. MK Smiles was founded by Dr Uma Madhav, who oversaw my treatment.
Initially, I had to go in for a check up to ensure I had a healthy mouth and set of teeth. After discovering I didn’t have any problems, we took a mould.
Uma made sure I was comfortable with the treatment and was really good at settling any nerves. Taking a mould was simple, it involved having some putty put round my teeth for a few minutes until it set.
The next bit was easy, I just had to wait a couple of weeks for the moulds to be made.
Then I returned to MK Smiles for Uma to talk through what I needed to do.
The actual whitening process was very simple. All it involves is squeezing a small amount of the gel into each tooth of the mouthpiece. Then putting it on and wiping away any excess that squeezes out.
You only need to keep the mouthpiece in for 2 hours but it's recommended to leave it in over night.
I used to have retainers when I was younger, so sleeping with it in was no issue, after the first night I soon forgot it was even in there.
The only trouble I had with sleeping was the excitement to see what my teeth looked like in the morning!
I was straight out of bed the following morning and into the bathroom. The mouthpiece removed easily and after
rinsing, I could see the difference straight away.
I started with just the top teeth, getting them as white as I wanted, before whitening the bottom set to match.
Uma warned me of potential sensitivity but I didn’t experience any at all. I was warned that sensitivity could be increased during the process but that my teeth would return to normal after.
The results are amazing. I stopped before I reached “Hollywood” levels of white, but still, people keep mentioning to me how white my teeth look.
The whole process was easy with Uma settling any questions I had and put me at ease throughout the process.
